Just a quick statement:
Am I the only one who noticed that the cheesy, corn filled crap of yesteryear had the scarient films of ALL time?
Do you think it was the era or our ages when we watched them?
I couldn't sleep for a day and a half after watching Friday the 13th. Now I watch it and think it should be re-genre'd as a comedy (did I just make up a new word?? Re-genre'd???) Like Halloween, and the like... Nightmare on Elm street gave me the empty pain in the stomach feeling due to the suspense.
The Scary movies of today are not scary at all, Is it because the old films of yesteryear taught us when the scary parts were coming?
I GUARANTEE that if a movie from today came out back when the cheese was out. (even a movie like white noise or the 6th sense), with the upgrade of special effects and plots, I, (like many other Americans) would be either dead or in a shell shocked fear coma...
The Idea for this thread came from reading @Spud17 's comment about Poltergeist... That I admit the original wasn't really that cheesy, since plots to do with the afterlife always scared me. , but she says the remake was worse... But I wonder if I wastch the remake, will I think "This is bad, but if it was released way back when, would it be able to stand as acceptable horror???
What do you think. The only good scary movies IMHO are the ones that get your mind to wander after the fact "could this really happen???"
