  • Is this story about bird suicide a joke?
There was a news story about a group of bird watchers who gathered in Scotland (about 40 of them) to watch a very rare bird and when they saw it, the bird flew into a wind turbine and was killed.

The story concludes with, "suicide has not been ruled out".

I am not the sharpest tack in the box and I just can't decide if this story is a hoax or if it is real. It was carried in The Drudge Report which is a very serious source for world news (although mostly US news). Still, I just can't figure it out.

What do you think? Is it a hoax? How can it be real if it talks about bird suicide?

yes, the bird flew into the turbine... the suicide part is called 'commentary.'

"Yeah. I understand the mechanics of it, shithead. I just don't understand how this is any less retarded than what I'm suggesting." - Kiley; Housebound.
When a bird flies close to the front of a running turbine, it gets sucked into it, unable to escape.
It is doubtful that it was suicide.
Birds also get killed by flying into jet engines and windows.

Never underestimate the power of human stupidity.
