As you've already discovered, there is a Private Messaging(PM) system. If there is enough interest, I can add a shoutbox and maybe even an IM script. What do you guys think?

Would we need both? I am obviously a fan of shoutboxes, and I have thought about adding one, but the sidebar would have to be moved or reduced and I like the sidebar.
Also, I wouldn't want to distract members from posting.

Not to be all old-fashioned and boring (though obviously I am)... but if there's a chat box, and an option to turn off the chat box, I'll turn off the chat box 
A good active thread will end up much like a chat anyway, and be directed so that others can jump in rather than just the inane shite that a chat (or even a shoutbox) usually degenerates into.

That's why I have avoided it thus far. Not to mention that as a new and small forum we will lose a lot of posts to the chat/shoutbox. I agree with Leanne, if I could turn it off, I would certainly do so.

IMO it's not needed yet. Work with what we have and we need to try and contain the urge to "run before we can walk" .

i didnt mean a box where everyone could im each other i meant like private instant message, like if you go on to someone's profile and they are online then to be able to contact them faster and easier than going to cp then create message or to go and hit private message then waiting for them to see that they got a message, so i figured an IM would b faster and simpler, that or make the message notifications more... noticeable.
