As you can tell by the title of this thread you already know what this is about.....We have all looked in a thread with a great looking title only to find its nothing to do with or scarcely has anything to do with the title...And as members its up to all of us to make sure that changes with threads being made outside the pit being named correctly by putting relevant titles in threads..for example if we see a thread named "Drunk Monkeys " and we open that thread then we all want to see pictures of monkeys that are falling over themselves and partying because they have had too much hooch not some political story thats happening in the world...thats a misinformed title ...same goes the other way round if we see a thread named "FBI Warns The Internet" we would think "hello this looks interesting" ...we would like to open that thread and read about why the FBI are doing this....thats a good titled thread with a relevant story....no monkeys ....so if we all follow these little rules then we will all live happilly ever after

•must be relevant to the intended content of the thread

    •may not be misleading

    •must be in English

We are taking over the world.

Of course we have only just begun so it will take a while but eventually we the people of Rant Central will take over the entire map:

So if you know someone from one of the grey areas, invite them and help us fill in those squares (go for the big land areas Wink )

Thanks for putting Rant Central on the map :p

For those unfamiliar with Twitter and FaceBook, these social media sites have a feature that allows users 'mention' other members by placing an @ symbol in front of their names. The user that is mentioned is notified that they were mentioned as well.

Well, after a lot of work and some more help from some of the guys at MyBB, I have integrated a Twitter style mention system into the MyAlerts we already have been using.

When you type someone's name prefaced with @, their name becomes a link to their user profile, like so: @Mark

While you can 'mention' yourself like I have done above, no alert will be created.

This option (like all alerts) can be disabled here. It is enabled by default.

So mention someone when you want to bring them into a conversation, or when they don't come around every day so you want to be sure they will see the post or thread in question.

Feel free to mention anyone you like, but please remember that it is rude to overdo things. Smile

If you have any questions or find any problems feel free to post in this thread.

    I hope you enjoy Smile

Rant Central has never made a habit of advertising in the open forums, but I think you'd all agree that HTorrentz and KATRadio are true friends of RC, so we will always make an exception.

Our host HTZ is trying to release a FREE app for KATRadio listeners and needs a bit of help from anyone with a kind heart. He has been so good to us, lets help him meet his goal.

    Confession Time

I am a nerd (that isn't the confession, y'all know that) and I just click on stuff on the Internet, read, click some more, go try something, fail, read some more, winz, etc. I have always wanted to learn web design I began to discover PHP and blah blah, nerdy blah, the next thing I know I was at MyBB forums.

I was thinking, 'Wow, this could be a neat way to start a website and learn.' So I researched and found that I could get a free host that would support everything that MyBB needed (software-wise) so I signed up at 000webhost.com and installed my first MyBB forum...this one Wink

With no previous experience, I never intended to allow the public in. I just thought I would tell some Internet friends (Aish, SJ, billy) and I could practice my web research in peace...but then here we are a year later with a few members more and I am still practicing LMAO

    In The Beginning

    The first three members were:

    [Image: aish-avatar.jpg]     [Image: billy-avatar.jpg]     [Image: sj-avatar.jpg]

Aish was co-admin here in the beginning, billy was just checking in to see how things were going (I mod for him at pigpenpoetry.com) and SJ came for the long haul (and brought yaks!)

Here is a little timeline of the members here:

Toga already saw this and says I should've let somebody else do it XD

    One Year Later

Thanks to other forum friends along the way, Rant Central has survived so far and I am so very thankful to all of those who were such a big part in keeping things going.

    Happy Anniversary Rant Central

    I have installed MyAlerts . . .

It is a great plugin by euanator from MyBB and http://euanator.com

    It adds these features:

    • Receive alert for reputation
    • Receive alert for Private Message (PM)
    • Receive alert when added to buddylist
    • Receive alert when quoted in a post
    • Receive alert when somebody replies to your thread(s)

These alerts are all optional. To disable any or all of them go to User CP -> Alert Settings and edit the individual settings.

If the link display at the top of your screen looks bunched up, try clearing your browser's caches as I've had to move things around to make room.

    Happy Early Anniversary

    Smile

    Dear Rantcentral Peeps.

Im switching to a New Dedicated Server to provide hosting from.
Since rantcentral is hosted by me. it will mean that rantcentral will move aswell to a new dedicated server.

The New Dedicated server is hosted at the same datacenter, which prevents long downtime, switching servers will go fast due to being in the same Datacenter and network, the moving process should take max 5 minutes, The Domain nameserver will be automaticly be changed upon move. so probably you might see a 404 error popping up on the Coming Monday the 22nd of Oktober at 10 PM Dutch (which is GMT+1)

For the people interrested these are the Technical Specifications of the New Dedicated Server.

    HTorrentz Dedicated Webhost Server Specs:

    Ram: 16 GB DDR3
    Processor: AMD Opteron™ 4180
    Cores: 6 x 2.6 GHz
    RAID1 System Included
    Bandwidth Per Month: 5.000 GB
    IPv6 Ready
    Space: 2.000 GB

    Domains:

    100 Free Domains
These Extensions: .nl - .com - .co - .net - .org - .eu - .info and .biz
    Domain Forwarding Included
    Unlimited Sub Domains

    OS: Ubuntu 12.04 LTS

    Server Features:

FTP Backup up to 100 GB
    Remote Console Included
    Recovery Manager Included
    TrafficControl Included
    SSH-Acces Included
    Root-Acces Included
    FTP-Acces Included

    Programming & Databases:

    10 Different Dedicated IP Adresses
    PHP5, Perl and Python Supported
    Cronjobs Supported
    Unlimited MySQL Databases
    Server Side Includes Support
    Own CGI Scripts Allowed

    Email:

    Unlimited Email Adresses
    IMAP & POP3 Enabled

These are some random specs i got tons of more new stuff i can do, but those are not relevant, just like these specs possible arent, but for the ones interrested i posted them anyways.
its way better then the current dedicated server i own.

The Network speed will be same, it will just be an upgrade pretty much in system and bandwidth and space.

So basicly not alot will change for rantcentral other then it will be moved to the new server, and rantcentral will get extra Space and Bandwidth.

Hope To have you all informed.

If you got any questions? don't hesitate to ask them.

some of you might have noticed that several new members have joined the forum today with similar user names:

    • JeanP1985
    • JakeS1957
    • CatherineJ1942
    • JamesK1894
    • JohnA1994

all these users are puppet accounts being used by some type of spam-fag(s).

THE main issue is that they are placing links in their profiles which direct the user(s) to a url (site) containing malicious code.

Do not click the links... DO NOT click the links.

even when we find a reasonable method of blocking this type of thing from occurring, you should always use a reasonable amount of discretion when clicking on unfamiliar and, or dodgy links.

I am doing some minor upgrades- nothing worth shutting the board down for, but you might see some things that don't look quite right if you happen to be online in the next 30 minutes.

    Just a heads up. Smile
