Why all the torrent competition?

Why all the torrent competition?
I have mentioned it in private a ways back, but now that I know of this site (Thanks VelvetFog), I'm gonna rant about it publicly:

Why do TV/Movie/Porn Uploaders bitch so much about who ups what?

I'm a porn uploader, and I'm not in competition with anyone but myself and my left nut.
To this day, I still get IRC PMs from Uploaders and their fans, and it always the same:

"Why does X upload torrents before/after Y does?", "Why is the quality of X's torrents better than Y's?"

And the ever popular "They have more torrents than I do. Why they be doing that?"

WHY do people tell me about this? As long as the torrent is legit, who cares about all that other crap?

Why can't people just download and be marry?

And why can't I stop hearing all about it? Undecided

Boobies...They makes me smile. Cool

RE: Why all the torrent competition?
I think that more people should feel like you do about it but I know a lot of uploaders who become very protective and emotional about their warez.

I personally only ever upload things that I cannot find, or I cannot find it in the format or with the attributes I need/want. But that is just because I feel that expanding the world's largest digital library with new (as in not-already-uploaded not the age of the source) material is better than uploading exact duplicates.

That being said, I don't give a fuck what anyone else uploads-- its not my call and why would I care?

It all comes around to why you want to upload to begin with-- if it is so you can be a big shot on IRC then you have completely missed the point of sharing.

^^^ Agree!! As a downloader, the best I can do is seed what I download, SO I thank all uploaders for what they do. If I have something that is not there, I'll make sure I upload. I feel it's somehow a sense of duty to our "sharing community" I also want to learn as much as I can, so I can help others out. I've only been torrenting for approx. 6 months, so I'm still a n00b!

My 2 pet peevs about torrenting are:

1. People who D/L torrents to SELL to others.
2. People who bitch about what they get. If they are really unhappy, just buy whatever it is or wait for it to come out. "The cam rip on this movie (whatever movie that came out in the movies a few days before) looks awful"... MAN, STFU!!!!!!!

RE: Why all the torrent competition?
I have had a few of my torrents 'stolen' LMAO by others. I usually don't care except when they have taken them and then plastered their website logo all over it and used it as advertising, which has happened to me at least twice that I know of.

When I discover a torrent like that, I write a comment on that torrent informing people that if they want the original one without all the ads they can get mine instead, but I don't whine about it or get all pissy.

I've also downloaded someone else's torrent and reupped it after adding subtitles which were not on the original, but I gave credit in the description to the original uploader.

So, I don't mind people reupping someone else's torrent as long as they improve it in some way and don't use it for advertising or making money. Otherwise it defeats the purpose of torrenting.

display the right to have no life, to have respect they must accept

RE: Why all the torrent competition?
I'd love to upload, but I don't have anything that isn't already there. Except some Schoolly D albums that I ripped from You-Tube... I was thinking of breaking the YT rip up into individual songs, and upload the albums with art... But do you think it would be worth it, since it's on YT already... The quality is pretty good; I don't think it's lossless but it still sounds pretty damn good.

PS: All tools used to rip from YT, modify the songs, etc are tools I downloaded from TPB so again, thanks to the uploaders! And the uploaders allow me to learn the new app (or whatever) I torrented. Win all around.

I don't really know. For some reason, people just feel entitled and instead of appreciating what they just got for free, they'll whine about this or that. For the life of me I could never understand that. If you don't like it, DELETE IT and STFU!!! Don't bash the person trying to provide whatever it is you're D/L'ing. That's just classless.

(06-07-2013 06:21 PM)SteRipper Wrote:  And why can't I stop hearing all about it?

Because the a/h's that feel entitled also feel that they are smarter and can't wait to "tell" you their ideas or what they think you're doing wrong. People feel the need to add their input as it makes them feel they somehow contributed. I saw that a lot as a supervisor back up at my last job. So and so would come up and push an idea, but they don't know how it'll affect other units or departments. They get mad at you when you poo-poo their idea, thinking you're just being lazy or something. Little do they know that after much "critical thinking" it was determined that your idea was Stooooopit! Most don't see the big picture, they just know they have an idea and they're right so they are free to make statements.

Rant over, just know I (and many others) do appreciate it.

RE: Why all the torrent competition?
I usually don't care who uploads what as long as it's good. I tend to drift toward Dibya's torrents since he's usually the first to upload stuff in HD. If I find something cool that's not on TPB, I'll upload it. Otherwise, why bother seeding it from my HD for months when it's already in several other well-seeded torrents?
