What Did You Want To Be When You Grew Up
#1
I watched Mr. Deeds again last night and the pre-ending speech Deeds gives about what you wanted to be and what you became left me still thinking long after the movie ended.

When I was a kid I just wanted to be a kid. I never really thought much about growing up.

I did always dream about being Bill Gates though. Or Peter Norton. These were my heroes. (What a fucking nerd.)

When you were a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up?

I wanted to become a techie. Electronics fascinated me.
I also wanted to get the hell away from the European town I grew up in, and go and live in North America instead.
Those were the firm thoughts in my head when I was around 9 to 10 years old.
It took me nearly another ten years to implement them.

My dream as a child was to become a Royal Marine Commando and specialise in Arctic Warfare. When I was around 7, I discovered that only boys can join the marines so naturally I was gutted. Nothing else appealed to me after that so I just carried on being a kid and getting on with things.

That's OK. I'm glad you didn't make it.

being a poor egomaniac is worse though. The Finger

I've also always dreamed of being a famous musician but that seems to be a common nerd fantasy.

The folks from where you live who got rich are the ones who got off their asses and migrated to the west coast.
