the win was well deserved but let's admit the ref made two very poor decisions on that goal by de vrij.

piqué did not commit any foul to justify the free kick.

    and

before de vrij even touched the ball, van persie commited a foul over casillas.

I wonder what it cost to buy (bribe) a FIFA referee?
I think most of them come from 3rd world countries, so they are probably not all that expensive.
A quite insignificant expense relative to the $1 billion or so wagered on each world cup match.

in the portuguese language there are several words that begin with the letter "h".
however, that "h" is always silent.
in that regard, the english language is quite different.
for example, the word "and" sounds different from the word "hand".
that "h" has a sound that doesn't exist in the portuguese language.

now, portuguese sports commentators, or at least the vast majority of them,
know very little about the english language, and yet they try to give spectators
the impression that they speak the language fluently.

and here's where the silliness starts happening.
based on their poor knowledge of the english language, they assume
the "h" sound should be used even if the word begins with a vowel.
if someone's name is andy or ashley, they'll call them handy or hashley.
(actually, they'll call them hashlay, because they think "ey" is pronounced "ay")

anyway, one of the players in the australian team is called tommy oar.
as i was watching the 1st half of the australia vs chile match,
the commentator kept calling him tommy hoar.
which sounds just like tommy whore.
