i checked out a nexus tablet yesterday that my friend just just bought... i'm so glad i bought an ipad.

Both operating systems have been created for touch screen devices such as smart phones and tablets.
The substantive differences between Apple's iOS and Google's Android are these:

Android
Linux based OS that uses a runtime application engine similar to Java.
The OS is provided free by Google, and is used by numerous hardware manufacturers.
Apps are downloaded from the Google Play Store
