Looking for some new PC games
#1
I have never gotten into gaming on the PC in a big way. But about ten years ago, I saw the game "Mafia" in a bargain bin and it was really inexpensive and so I bought it just for a laugh.

Well, the laugh was on me because I thought it was a fantastically great game. I guess you would call it an "Action-Adventure" game. I thought most everything about it was excellent. I spent almost 4 weeks before I grew tired of it.

I'd love to find another game that was as much fun as Mafia. I am posting this thread in the hope that some people here may know of some PC games available that are in the same league as Mafia and who can recommend some to me.

I really don't care for shooting games at all. There is some shooting in Mafia but it is very little and it is integrated into the story.

Mafia is a very long story and you have to solve a number of problems and puzzles to progress to the end. When you reach the end, you get a large number of bonus prizes like much faster cars. So you can explore the city but drive at speeds almost double the speeds you have been driving. I had never experieced a game like Mafia before or since.

Grand Theft Auto is the one game that seems to come to mind. I've never really tried it. But it seems like it would be very highly repetitive to me. It seems like there is only really one or two problems to be solved in that game and they are to rip off people for their cars.

But can anyone recommend any games you think I might enjoy?

Thanks.

Apart from having played GTA, I don't play pc games at all because of lack of time, so I can't personally recommend any to you. However, if you take a look at this link, it lists the 25 best pc games for this quarter (according to whom, I don't know). If you click on each game title, you get a few mini-reviews of each game:

GTA isn't repetitive, it's fun running a pig over then going straight for a haircut. Try it, you might enjoy it. Big Grin

GTA:San Andreas is just about the best game I have ever played. It is not repetitive at all because you can basically do whatever you want whenever you want to. There is a very long involved storyline with various missions to go on and goals to accomplish, or you can ignore the story at any time you want and go do your own thing, whether that be trying to get a girlfriend, or dancing, or betting at a casino or racetrack, or racing cars and motorcycles and go carts and remote control cars, or buying new clothes, or working out, or stealing cars and running people over, or learning how to fly a plane, or finding hidden items, and so on and so on. There are so many things to do that I could not possible think of them all right now.

I highly highly recommend it to anyone. You will not need another game for months, maybe longer.

I didn't realize that San Andrea was a newer version of GTA. I thought it was independent from GTA.

Oh well, live and learn.
