Limitations r.e. O/s's (Windows) = 4??
Hi all,

i've just built another BEAST, this one containing 6 H/D's.
I'm limited to running 4 by my M/B (SATA connections).

If i partition each H/D like i normally do to put 2 O/S's on each H/D, i've been told that windows will only recognise 4 O/S's (Which = 2 H/D's).

Is it possible to configure so 4 H/D's are recognised, visable in the boot menu and can be seen through START/COMPUTER

Any input would be appreciated.

can't do
the only way to put multiple OS in single machine with more than 4 are only applicable others than MS based OS
as for HDD, the limitations are sets by the M/B Bios.

Is it possible to "flash" the BIOS to re-configure it so it accepts all H/D's with 2 O/S's on each?.

Multiple OS limitations are decided by the OS that installed it self
i.e.
bios will tell there's a 2 different platform of OS that installed
1. MS Win without telling the version of that OS
2. Non-MS Win OS

MS Win XP can only recognized 4 MS Win OS and 2 other platforms OS(just an example)Linux based, are not shown
and at the boot Win OS menu, you can only see 4 MS Win OS the 2 linux are not shown
but at the boot OS menu of the linux based you can see them all

as for the HDD, the limitations based on the specifications of the M/B made by the Manufacturer, to do some Bios flashing one must be considered are the M/B specifications it self

Good stuff lightbulb!
I've numerous M/B's and have been trying for some time to get all boot options/ H/D's recognised.
It's a pet project at the moment but i'm going to try and put LINUX as a primary boot O/S and see if i can load all other O/.S's secondary i.e. have them listed as boot options and recognised.

Many thanks for your input Smile

I suggest the Linux OS that you use as Primary boot OS is the one with Server capability, of course all Linux OS are server-able but only some that was meant to do that...Cent OS for example....
grab them from the covenTongue
