Help Request: Opening azw3 files on Kindle for PC.
    #1
    Very basic question.

    I downloaded a azw3 format ebook.
How do I open it in Kindle for PC ?
    Am Using Win-7.

    History:
I installed Kindle-for-PC from amazon yesterday.
Seems to have installed in C:/Users/xyz/App Data/Local/Amazon/
Am able to start the Kindle appln and view some books I bought ($0.00) long back. But there's nothing like a File -> Open as in Calibre.

The azw3 file i downloaded was initially in D:/ebooks
Tried Right-click and Open-With using the installed Kindle. Didn't work.
Then I moved it to C:/Users/xyz/App Data/Local/Amazon/Kindle for PC
    Still doesn't open.

There is one copy of some old Kindle application in C:/Program Files/Amazon/Kindle
I can't remember how it got there. It is proly the one I used to make my "purchase".
The Kindle application there (1 year old) doesn't even start.
I hope/think it is not interfering in any way.

    Thanks for any ideas.

I do have calibre. The ebook opens in it fine. I should have mentioned that.
But I would like to be able to open and read in Kindle if possible.

    Solved below problem.
I found the location via kindle Options -> Content :-)
The folder was hidden and the filename as not the book name.

Relatedly, kindle currently displays 6 books under "Downloaded Items"
Am unable to even locate them on the disk !

So, I used 'Manage your Kindle', which took me to amazon and there on the site, under Actions, chose 'Deliver'
It said Delivered. I dunno where the file landed up on my PC. Even did a full file system search by the book name.
    Am surely doing something wrong.

It worked ! Either I forgot to restart Kindle or my eyes didn't spot the book.
Simply copy-paste the mobi to "My Kindle Contents". So simple and now it seems obvious.

    More detailed steps.

    Problem solved !!

Ummm OK. I think I get your "deployment scenario". Never used a Kindle device you see :-)

I was reading about it all afternoon and couldn't solve it.

I think this must be your set up.

I suppose the important step is "Send to Device".
If I had an actual Kindle gadget, I'd probably see that icon in Calibre (picture in above web page).

From my amazon account am able to send/push to my "Kindle for PC" (registered "device"), the books that are in my account. But only those books. Wish I could somehow do it from calibre or somehow.

I even tried simply copying the azw3 and mobi file into the "My Kindle Content" folder and refreshing the view in Kindle.

I suddenly took a liking to the font and layout in Kindle. Hence the experiment.
