i'm not talented enough. i can come up with tons of ideas. but the real challenge is to put them together properly, to give them structure, to arrange them so they sound like a finished product, that's when you have a song and that's where the real talent resides. plus, i couldn't write lyrics to save my life, much less sing them.

That's what I love about music. I actually feel a little insulted when someone watched me play for three hours and then says, 'You're a great guitar player.' Because if all I am is a guitar player then I have failed. At least I will have failed myself.

being a great guitar player doesn't necessarily imply being a bad songwriter.

i think the best way of learning how to play lead guitar is just mess around with the scales and do your own thing and you will eventually get faster and better all the time
